The Other Place - Ankeny in Ankeny

This place suffers from one thing...newness. The community is flocking to it and that bogs down the system. You wait a little longer to get a seat, even at 5pm. You wait for appetizers and you wait even longer for your pizza, the product of having so many people ordering food (dine in and to go) at once.That being said, it is a great place for food and to catch a game. The service was very friendly (Alexis W. ) and it will all get better as the novelty wears off.

Have always loved the Other Place and truly miss having one in Ames. Was happy I got the chance to stop in here. Pizza was delicious as always and service is always spot on.

Great atmosphere, sort of airy sports bar genre. Staff is young energetic and happy. Order was returned quickly and correctly. Portions were large to very large and delicious. Price, a little on the higher end but good all round value and a good place for a meet.

The food was excellent. The mozzerella sticks were huge and freshly cooked and fried. You could tell they were not frozen. The beer was served in an iced mug and was so cold it had a thin layer of ice over the top. It was the best beer I'd had in a while. My burger and fries were excellent as well and were not too expensive. I had good service and had no issues in that respect. I did not have a bad experience like many did on here. This could have been because I went at night.

Pretty mediocre. Went there for a quick bite during a work trip. Food and drinks were all mediocre. Not much for craft beers available. Options were primarily domestic. Unimpressed with my old fashioned.

Overall nice experience. Pizza, oven baked subs and pasta are available with a variety of beer to help it go down. No vegan substitutes were available that I could see.

We go to the WDM location all the time with great satisfaction, this location needs some help. Couldn't get a drink to save my life Wait staff did nothing but hang out at the bar and talk. Won't be back.

The food was great!! I had a gluten free cheeseburger and it was great!! The staff was nice and friendly!! Welcoming atmosphere on a snowy evening!!

To start none of the staff is wearing any PPE and there is no social distancing at all. In fact a staff member can with in inches of my face upon brining condiments to our table. Also the customers were not spread out at all, there where people back to back in tables with no barriers. We also waited for about 30 mins for our food, which wasn't even that great, mediocre at best. And because the food wasn't that good we finished quickly and it still took the waiter another 20 mins to get out check when it wasn't even that busy. Well while waiting I got to watch a lot of Fox News... I felt very uncomfortable the whole time I didn't feel safe and I can not justify ever going back. In a hard time where personal protection is important it should not be taken lightly. With that I don't even feel like it deserves one star at all.

The service was okay!! But my 🍟 were cold, and I asked for no onion!! Or pickles on my cheeseburger, !! And got both!! Sad . just wanted a hot meal!! After the Strom.

I understand with Covid we have to wait but when we arrived the bar was open and barely busy. We sat down, and there we 2 bartenders running around. We had to wait about 10 minutes for the first bartender to take our drink order. With that out of the way we gave our food order to another bartender. We ordered before three other codes as they had just sat down when we ordered. The three couples received their drinks and food before we even got our salads. By the time we got our food the other three couples had three drinks, an appetizer and their food and has paid their bill and left. Meanwhile, I sat with an empty beer glass for my entire dinner. My wife and I both ordered the Frisco burger, which was warm at best and was skimpy on the toppings and our ketchup was warmer than the fries. We then waited almost 20 minutes to get our bill and had to ask 3 different people for it.Recommendation...if you are not a regular, do not sit at the bar!

Good food and great service. This place hit all the right notes. The food was hit and fresh and the service was quick. Our drinks never went empty and we never felt rushed to leave. The pizza and sandwiches were the highlight for our group. Definitely with a try, I will be back again.

Easy parking, convenient location, the chili was quite good and the waiter was fantastic. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is due to the fact I've not tried anything else on their menu. I will however, go back and try other menu item's which will most likely change my 4 star to a 5 star.

Good selection of beer good food. Great place to hang with friends and coworkers. 🍻👍

Go in after work sometimes. The bartender is always really nice. Quick-service all the time.

Went in late afternoon, just passing through. Had a small Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza and a couple beers. Excellent, affordable and fast service. And super friendly and efficient service staff!

Delivery was late by 22 minutes. $27 dollar pizza COLD. And then on top of that my boyfriend choked on a toothpick that was baked in to the pizza. Don’t want to eat anymore of the pizza because who knows what other land mines are in there. Said it was free delivery but there is still a fee but they call it a convenience fee. Will not be ordering again. What a disappointment. And why the hell was there a tooth pick in the pizza!

Sydney is a wonderful waitress! Food is OUTSTANDING! Drinks are worth the price considering the atmosphere!!! Love this place! Go in..... you won't be disappointed!

Service was a little so, food was good though...

Service and atmosphere are great for a sports bar type of restaurant. We were seated immediately and ordered pizza which was served in a very reasonable time. The pizza was excellent as well as the drinks. The parking lot is shared by other stores in this strip mall but there were still plenty of available parking spaces. If you are looking for a new place to go, The Other Place is well worth looking into.

First time,and boy have we been missing out! Great atmosphere, clean,and friendly staff. Breaded tenderloins are as advertised, GIANT! Not the flat and dry offerings of other places,but a nice thick meaty,and we'll breaded sandwich! I usually like thin onion rings, but theirs are thick,and oh so tasty! Great experience!

Good pizza! Will be back to try more of the menu! Loved the Americana decor! After dinner, I strolled around to look at all the vintage signage.

One of my favorite places to watch a game. Good food and drink, and although always seem to be busy can usually get a table very quickly.

Food was average. Nice beer selection. Want to try their pizza next time. Great service.

Best taco pizza around.

Went here for the first time and had lunch. Food was delicious. I especially loved their honey mustard for the chicken tenders. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty quiet so you didn't have to shout to be heard.*Update: ordered some food to-go a couple weeks ago and was disappointed. Someone tied the bag up on our food really tight and it got soggy. There was a 30 minute pickup window too so you didn't know when your food was actually done and it was hard to time. There were less chicken tenders and fries in the box as opposed to when you dine in too so not my greatest pickup experience. Won't keep me from dining in but may not be ready to try the pickup again for awhile.

As a person familiar with the brand we gave this location a try. We had a bad experience but the management did follow up - in the restaurant and online - and they made it up to us. Hopefully next time is better and we can add another star for one of our local faves.

Staff is very understanding and pay close attention. My waitress was very accommodating and fit the her role like a glove without any explanation. Ten out of ten would dine again. Food is alright. Drinks are great.

Good place for lunch and a drink

Long wait for food. Drinks were served in cheap plastic cups. Food was not acceptable. Both burgers were between well done and burnt (menu says medium rare) topped with heaps of mayo. Atmosphere was loud and unpleasant. I will not return and do not recommend it.

Waited over an hour and a half after ordering just a pizza and breadsticks. Absolutely ridiculous. Watched them remake someone’s whole entire order of 5+ items while sitting in the lobby. Very messy and unprofessional. Would give 0 stars if I could.

Food was good and our server was excellent. Many places have jacked their prices way after opening again, Other Place has not

Placed online order said 20-30min should be ready was about to head out the door to pick up noticed they canceled my order because they closed almost 3hrs early they refunded me but it's going to take 2-3days first time trying this place :/.... may change the rating once I'm actually able to try it again

Outstanding comfort food with lots of sports and the appetizers are prepped in-house. Excellent pizza.

Good food. Awesome chicken fingers. The garlic cheese bread was not as good as I remember from my college days at uni but it was still good.
